What Is Wealthy Affiliate?

Wealthy Affiliate is a complete affiliate marketing platform that allows you to create, grow, and manage an online affiliate marketing business.

I kicked the tires on this program to see if it’s the real deal. Once I got inside, I found really helpful training videos, live classes, personal and expert support (seriously, I found the support to be great), website builders that are easy to use, website hosting, research tools, and an ability to network with the members within (thousands of ACTIVE members). Everything was intuitive to use, which is a definite plus for non-technical people.

The benefits of an affiliate marketing business, if done right, is worth the time and effort it takes to build it. To start with, it requires virtually no investment to start up, no need to deal with products and product support, no need to tie up money with inventory, and no real limits on what you can make. It is a way of creating passive income, enabling you to reclaim your time (eventually).

What It Isn’t

If you are looking for a ready-made, turn-key business, this is not it. If you want everything done for you, go elsewhere.  It will walk you through everything you need to know, but it’s up to you to follow through with the instructions.

This is no get rich quick program, it’s a real business building platform. It is not a guarantee of success. That simply doesn’t exist. As with any other business, success depends on you. Wealthy Affiliate can provide all the tools you need, but it’s up to you to make them work for you.

Flexible Training To Suit Your Needs

In order to build a successful business of any kind, you need to educate yourself on the ins and outs of that business. Many go to college to learn skills in order to be prepared to succeed in a specific field. In the process, they spend 10’s of thousands of $$, as well as  2-4 (or more) years of their time to achieve this end.  It’s the same with an online business. If you want to succeed as an affiliate marketer, you need to learn the ropes of this business model.  However, the up front costs are far less.  In fact, a membership at Wealthy Affiliate will set you back less than a daily cup of coffee costs at Starbucks.

With any type of online business – whether it’s affiliate marketing or selling on Amazon (shameless plug for THIS review) – you have to understand the business model and all the details involved in that business. Even more important, you really need to understand the things to avoid, if you want to be successful as quickly and efficiently as possible. All this information and guidance can be found within Wealthy Affiliate.

I found the Wealthy Affiliate’s training videos easy to understand, on point, and provide good examples of the topic or step being taught. The ones you’ll look at first, the “starter” videos, are short enough to digest easily, and do not overwhelm you with too much information at one time.

The training will literally take you through every building block of your business step by step, showing you how to properly set it up from scratch. The videos give examples that lead to “tasks” you will follow to put each block in place. These action items really help the lesson “sink in”. It’s like video landholding. And if you get stuck, help is always available.

Affiliate Marketing 101

There is a process to building a successful affiliate marketing business online that anyone can follow. It’s not rocket science, but it does require consistent effort with a bit of patience thrown in.

The basic steps to build an online affiliate marketing business are:

  1. Choose an interest (niche)
  2. Build a Website
  3. Attract Visitors
  4. Generate Revenue

Sounds simple, right? It is, but not always easy – especially if you’re trying to go it alone. Wealthy Affiliate walks you through each step, in order, and in detail. It also provides you with easy to use Website building tools, research tools, and Web hosting. It has everything you need under one roof.  This means no extra expenses (like with other affiliate marketing memberships I’ve looked at, like one I reviewed HERE.)

While getting started is not difficult, there are ways to “tune” your business that requires a bit of additional training. Fine tuning can be the difference between “some” income, and a “lot” of income. It also makes a difference in how soon you can see the rewards for your effort. Wealthy Affiliate walks you through the fine tuning, with plenty of support that can help you if you don’t understand something.

A Look at What You Get Inside

Here is a brief overview of what you get with each account type within Wealthy Affiliate:

Don’t Pay Too Much For Training

I know from experience that trying to make money online is time-consuming, and potentially hazardous to your wallet. There are a lot of ‘get rich quick’, ‘make your first $1000 in a week’, ‘lose the day job in a month’ nonsense out there – some of which is rather expensive. It’s hard to sort through all of this yourself to find out what works and what doesn’t, without wasting a lot of time (and perhaps money).

The key is to find a proven program that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, and includes a support network.  Being able to get answers to your questions quickly will save you time (we like that at Reclaim-Your-Time).  Post a question in the forum, and get a response.  Sure beats hours of Google searching for your answer.

Wealthy Affiliate Premium is inexpensive if you pay monthly, and even cheaper if you purchase an annual membership (puts it on par with website hosting fees, alone).

The starter account is free.  That’s the opposite of expensive, and it also includes a free domain (siterubix.com), and free website hosting.  I’m not sure how you can go wrong.  If you want a “.com” or similar domain, you can purchase it yourself from within Wealthy Affiliate, or even transfer an existing domain there.

Did I Mention Good Support?

The Wealthy Affiliate program is more than a business building platform. You get friendly, helpful support, and a community that has been where you are, and is willing to help.  You also get great tech support that gets back to you quickly if you have a problem.

The founders of Wealthy Affiliate, Kyle and Carson, are still active, personally helping people succeed. There are also “Ambassadors”, who are the highest-ranking members in the community. These members have years of experience and are always willing to answer questions and help you when you are stuck.

This kind of support is crucial for someone getting started. I’m quite impressed with how quick you can get answers to questions, and personally appreciate the community aspect of the platform.

Start For Free – You Have Nothing To Lose

Join the starter, it’s $0.  No credit card required.  If you don’t like it, well, you’re not out anything.  And please, if you don’t like it, come back to this site to tell me why.  Seriously.  I want to hear all input – good and bad.

I recommend that everyone who’s interested take advantage of the free account. This gives you a chance to test it out for yourself. If you like it, great! If not, you’ve at least learned how to build an online business from scratch and aren’t out a penny for your trouble.

Wealthy Affiliate Premium

The Premium membership is an all-inclusive platform.  It’s priced at $49/month (or $495/year), which is quite cheap, considering it is a complete package. Web hosting, alone, can cost you $29/month. Most platforms don’t offer web hosting. Other fees you save, include keyword tool fees ($$), website builder fees ($$), and writing tools ($$).  You get all of this in one place for one price.

There is also a $19 first month special for new Premium members.  It’s a way to check out the Premium features on the cheap.

[May 2020 Update To the Annual Premium Account]

If you decide to go for the Premium account, and pay annually (effectively saving 2 monthly payments), you get a free  ‘.com’ domain (can be registered within WA), 100 community credits (can be used for various things within the WA community), and a new bonus class, “AMA With Kyle, Success in 2020”.

If you’re interested in Premium, click HERE.

No Negatives?  Is it perfect?

No program is perfect, and this one is no exception.  When going through the training, I found a few of the videos to be dated.  The lessons are still valid, but the examples can be confusing, as they show something that has since changed.  To be fair, there are over 1,000 videos therein, so it is understandable that some are not completely up to date.

For example, one video mentions Google+, which doesn’t exist any more.  One shows you how to edit your profile, but the options have changed within the Wealthy Affiliate platform, so those direction don’t work any more.  Another suggests adding a WordPress social plug-in that hasn’t been updated in some time, which can cause problems on an updated WordPress site.

These types of things can easily be overcome with a helpful community that is active in this business (and tech support, should the need arise).  They answer these types of questions, and I recommend asking if you are confused about anything.  I’m a very technical person, and figured out most things on my own.  However, not everyone has the same technical background as I do, so being able to have these questions answered quickly is a big plus.

While dated videos can be annoying, I didn’t come across any that would cause you to go in a wrong direction, nor cause you any problems while building your business.

Closing Thoughts

If there is a better deal out there, I haven’t found it.  Tons of training videos, website hosting, tools, weekly live training on different topics, and a community that will help you out.

Wealthy Affiliate is my top recommendation for anyone wanting to start or grow their online business.  It brings value to everyone, regardless of your level of experience.

  1. Hello Steve,
Your feedback is so detailed! Well done. I joined WA to check out what it was all about. To be honest, I signed up to become a premium member within 2 hours of joining although I still had my 7 days free membership. I straight away knew it was home for me and the place I could gain useful information in order to grow my blog. Cheers!

    • Thanks for the kind words.

I didn’t join in two hours… more like two days. 😉 I liked what I saw, and like it even more today. This is a review that was easy to write, and a platform that is easy to recommend.

      All the best,

  2. WA is a great affiliate platform for beginners. It is what got me started my online business.
2 of my favourite features are:
    1) Community support & network
    2) Security of WP hosting
I agree the training video can do with some updating.

    • Thanks for your input, Chloe. Appreciate you taking time to comment.

You mentioned two things that are easily overlooked by beginners looking into online business training programs. The first is having a website hosting platform that is secure (which is nice to have at no extra expense, above the cost of training); the second is having a support network. WA has both… and a lot more.

Of course, nothing is perfect, as I mentioned in my review. If anyone finds “perfect”, please point me in that direction. I’d love to do a review on it. 😉

  3. Hi Steve,

I’ve been with Wealthy Affiliate since 2016 and it’s been a great journey so far. I was able to quit my job and focus 100% on my online business.

I also noticed that some videos are getting outdated, but I agree with you that there are so many resources that this is no big issue.

    • Hi Mia,

Thanks for stopping by. It’s nice to hear from a pro. I love hearing about success stories like yours, as it shows that you really can reclaim your time.

      Best wishes,

  4. I looked at Wealthy Affiliate after checking out another company wanting a $1,500 joining fee. So glad I found this instead!

The try before you buy offer is amazing because you can actually get started with zero risk.

I’m glad you saved your money and went with Wealthy Affiliate. It’s a great platform. The “no risk” part makes it really easy to recommend.

  5. Hi Steve,
I agree completely! Just wanted to add my experience if you don’t mind – I’ve been at wealthy affiliate several years now and honestly, it was like a breath of fresh air compared to most of the stuff online. You mention that you have to work hard and that it’s not turn-key…literally the opposite of what most programs nowadays claim to be, but I’ve found those are either scams (to put it politely) or they are so overpriced you can only afford it if you’re already bringing in a ton of money. So basically unattainable for those of us who are trying to learn how to earn extra on the side to make ends meet.
Yes, at wealthy affiliate you have to work hard – but you also feel good about your success and you never feel guilty for spending money on flashy programs that don’t work because you know you’re actually doing the work to make yourself successful.

      Hi Martina,

I couldn’t agree more. From my perspective, if you are not willing to put in the effort, you are not going to succeed – no matter what a flashy training program claims. It really is on you to make yourself successful. It is the job of the training vehicle/platform to give you the knowledge and tools you need to be able to make yourself successful.

If you aren’t willing to put in time and effort to make yourself successful, you are not ready to build a business of any type – online or brick and mortar. There is no easy money. However, when you succeed after putting in all that effort, it is quite rewarding.

      Thanks for your thoughtful comment.

  6. Thanks for the review. Been looking for a reliable Affiliate course, saw a lot of salvage affiliate videos, but it seems hard for me to relate and piece together. Since this is free to start for the trial, maybe I should try WA, before commit to the full course.

  7. Hello Steve,

I’ve been with Wealthy Affiliate for about 8 months now and I love it! You’re right about the community and training that they offer. No other affiliate marketing system comes close!

I got confused also when I reached that part in the training that recommends using Google +. I was looking all over trying to find it but it was gone. After all, no one is perfect.

Thank you for this awesome review of WA!

      Hi Billy,

I appreciate the kind words and the feedback. Glad you like Wealthy Affiliate. I’m also glad I wasn’t the only one who was confused at the Google+ mention. 😉

  8. I joined Wealthy Affiliate about two years ago. I just needed a way to build a website for our personal training business, and I only had a small budget to work with. I had no idea that I was going to receive and learn so much more than what I signed up for with the membership. We love WA and hosting is only 359 a year plus all the training and opportunity to build a passive income through other websites. I do not know why anyone would pass up taking Wealthy Affiliate for a Free spin. It is a no brainer!

      Hi Patrick,

I appreciate the feedback on Wealthy Affiliate. I agree, it’s inexpensive even if all you need is a website and hosting. Building/writing tools and hosting all in one place makes it easy, and much cheaper than buying these things separately.

      Thanks for the comment.
